On or about May 29, 2021, 20/20 Hearing Care Network (on behalf of 20/20 Eye Care Network, Inc.) reported to the California Attorney General that a data breach involving patients’ confidential, personal information was obtained by unauthorized third parties, specifically “Your Social number, member identification number, date of birth and health insurance information may have been seen or accessed before being deleted. This information is called your personal information or protected health information (PHI).” The breach has been reported to have occurred on or about January 11, 2021, meaning that more than 4 months passed before the breach was actually disclosed to the victims.
WHAT IS INVOLVED IN THE 20/20 HEARING CARE NETWORK BREACH?
The draft data breach notice submitted to the California Attorney General states that the following information was potentially included in the breach:
- Social Security Numbers,
- Member Identification Numbers,
- Dates of Birth; and,
- Health Insurance Information.
HOW MANY INDIVIDUALS ARE IMPACTED BY THE BREACH?
It has been reported that over 3.2 million individuals have been affected by the breach.
