by | Aug 19, 2021 | Firm News

Markovits, Stock & DeMarco, a law firm experienced in data breach cases around the country, is investigating claims on behalf of victims of a data breach involving data entrusted to MEMORIAL HEALTH SYSTEM by its customers, including sensitive personal information and confidential personal health information, including Social Security numbers. Memorial Health System is based in Marietta, Ohio.

WHAT HAPPENED?

On August 17, 2021, HIPPA Journal reported that Memorial Health System experienced a security breach on August 15, 2021 that forced it to divert emergency care.[1] Memorial Health System operates three hospitals in Ohio and West Virginia – all of which were included in the Data Breach.[2]

WHAT INFORMATION WAS EXPOSED IN THE DATA BREACH?

Certain news outlets are reporting that Memorial Health System’s Data Breach potentially included databases containing the protected health information of around 200,000 patients including,

  • names,
  • dates of birth, and,
  • Social Security numbers.[3]

Social Security numbers are some of the most private, personal information available and often used by hackers for nefarious purposes.
