21c Museum Hotels Data Breach Investigation

On September 17, 2021, 21c reported that it was sending notice to certain employees and customers because some employee email accounts were accessed by unauthorized actors.[1] 21c hired data security experts to assist in determining the extent of the 21c data breach.[2] 21c has been notifying impacted individuals of the data breach involving personal information. Local news outlets also reported about the 21c data breach.[3]

 

WHAT INFORMATION WAS EXPOSED IN THE 21C DATA BREACH?

On its website, 21c posted a notice stating that the following information belonging to employees and some guests was included in the data breach,

  • Dates of birth;
  • Social Security numbers;
  • Health insurance related information;
  • Financial account information; and,
  • Driver’s license number.[4]
