AMERICAN FREIGHT DATA BREACH CLASS ACTION INVESTIGATION

WHAT HAPPENED?

On August 23, 2021, American Freight reported that it experienced a data security incident between November 24, 2020 and December 9, 2020, although American Freight did not actually discover the data breach until June 11, 2021. Id. (noting that “The investigation determined that an unauthorized person had access to the contents of the accounts at various times between November 24, 2020, and December 9, 2020.”).

WHAT INFORMATION WAS EXPOSED IN THE DATA BREACH?

On its website, American Freight posted a notice about the data breach stating that the following information was included in the data breach,

names accompanied by Social Security numbers, financial/checking account numbers, payment card numbers, driver’s license numbers, and limited medical/health information. This information relates to American Freight’s customers, vendors, and employees.[2]

American Freight reported to the Office of the Main Attorney General that approximately 36,829 individuals’ information was impacted in the American Freight data breach.[3]
