PACIFIC CITY BANK DATA BREACH CLASS ACTION INVESTIGATION

WHAT HAPPENED?

On August 30, 2021, Pacific City Bank reported that “identified unusual activity on its network.”[1] Roughly a week later, on September 7, 2021, Pacific City Bank “determined that an external actor had accessed or acquired” certain of its customers’ and employees’ personal information “such as name, address, social security number, tax withholdings, and Form W-2 information.”[2]  Pacific City Bank waited until October 7, 2021 to report the data breach to the California Attorney General Office.[3]

 

WHAT INFORMATION WAS EXPOSED IN THE DATA BREACH?

On its website, Pacific City Bank posted a notice about the data breach stating that the following information was included in the data breach,

  • name,
  • address,
  • Social Security Number,
  • tax withholdings, and,
  • Form W-2 information.[4]
