WHAT HAPPENED?
Despite being the target of a ransomware attack on May 21, 2021, Goldwater Bank waited until October 2021 to notify affected victims in several states.[2] Goldwater Bank reported that its “IT vendor received alerts of unusual network activity….” Furthermore, Goldwater Bank noted that there was infiltration of victims’ data and that it was eventually able to “prevent further infiltration.”[3] This infiltration occurred despite Goldwater Bank representing publicly that it “restrict[s] access to your personal information to only those employees who need to know.”[4]
WHAT INFORMATION WAS EXPOSED IN THE DATA BREACH?
On its website, Goldwater Bank posted a notice about the data breach stating that the following information was included in the data breach,
- names,
- addresses,
- telephone numbers,
- Social Security Numbers,
- account numbers, and,
- tax identification numbers.[5]
