PAWN AMERICA MINNESOTA, LLC DATA BREACH CLASS ACTION INVESTIGATION

Markovits, Stock & DeMarco, a law firm experienced in data breach cases, is investigating claims on behalf of victims of a data breach involving data entrusted to Pawn America Minnesota, LLC, potentially including the following personal information: “names, addresses, phone number and email address; and driver’s license number, social security number, passport number or other identification numbers.”[1] Pawn America Minnesota is located at 181 River Ridge Circle South, Burnsville, MN 55337.

 

WHAT HAPPENED?

According to the data breach notice letter Pawn America Minnesota sent to the Maine Attorney General’s office, Pawn America Minnesota experienced outages on September 28, 2021 “and discovered that the company was the victim of a ransomware attack…”[2]  Notably, Pawn America Minnesota publicized that the cybercriminals informed it that “they retained copies [of] much of the data and threatened to leak the information which could make it available to other cybercriminals.”[3]

It its reporting to the Maine Attorney General, Pawn America Minnesota indicated that approximately 445,985 individuals’ sensitive, personal information was exposed in the data breach.

 

WHAT INFORMATION WAS EXPOSED IN THE DATA BREACH?

Pawn America Minnesota stated that the following information was included in the data breach,

  • Names,
  • Addresses,
  • Phone number and email address, and,
  • driver’s license, social security number, passport number or other identification numbers.[4]
