WHAT HAPPENED?
According to information submitted to the Maine Attorney General’s Office, Morley Companies, Inc., identified the presence of malware on its servers beginning on August 1, 2021. [2] Morley Companies, Inc. discovered it could not access certain files and folders on its systems, and a ransomware-type malware attack on its systems had occurred.[3]
HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE IMPACTED BY THE DATA BREACH?
Morley Companies, Inc. did not begin notifying victims of the breach until February 1, 2022.[4] In total, the data of 521,046 individuals was compromised in the breach.[5] The letters to victims do not explain why Morley Companies, Inc. waited approximately six months after learning of the breach to start notifying victims.[6]
WHAT INFORMATION WAS EXPOSED IN THE DATA BREACH?
Morley Companies, Inc. has disclosed the following information was included in the data breach:
- names,
- dates of birth,
- Social Security numbers,
- Medical diagnostic and treatment information, and
- health insurance information.[7]
