Finkelstein Eye Associates Data Breach Class Action Investigation

WHAT HAPPENED?

On December 4, 2021, Finkelstein Eye Associates detected a cyberattack on its computer systems.[1] The investigation that followed determined that an unauthorized actor had access to all of Finkelstein Eye Associates customer data.[2]

Finkelstein Eye Associates did not report the data breach to the authorities and the affected parties until August 15, 2022.[3] In total, the data of 36,099 individuals was compromised in the breach.[4] Finkelstein Eye Associates has not explained why it waited over eight months to disclose the breach.

WHAT INFORMATION WAS EXPOSED IN THE DATA BREACH?

Finkelstein Eye Associates has disclosed the following information was included in the data breach:

  • full names,
  • dates of birth,
  • Social Security numbers,
  • financial account information,
  • medical information,
  • credit/debit card numbers,
  • security or access codes, and
  • passwords or PINs for the accounts.[5]
