Puma Biotechnology is a biopharmaceutical company involved in acquiring in developing pharmaceutical treatments for various diseases.[1] Puma recently disclosed that on June 19, 2022, it became aware of some suspicious activity on its network. On June 27, 2022, an investigation revealed that an unauthorized third-party had gained access to the system and was able to access information stored on its files. Puma began notifying individuals affected by this data breach on or about May 17, 2023.[2]
WHAT HAPPENED?
Puma confirmed that for an undisclosed or unknown period of time unauthorized third parties were able to access files and systems that were supposed to be secure. Puma has confirmed that in the course of this data breach, the personal sensitive information of certain individuals may have been compromised.[3]
WHAT INFORMATION WAS EXPOSED IN THE DATA BREACH?
Unauthorized third parties were purportedly able to access the following information from various Puma’s network:
- Full names;
- Social Security numbers; and
- Financial account information.[4]
