Veridian Credit Union Data Breach Class Action Investigation

Veridian Credit Union, a large credit union operating throughout the state of Iowa, recently disclosed that in 2023, primarily on or between April 1-2, 2023, an unauthorized third party was able to gain access to its network and obtain personal and private information of current and potential Veridian clients and customers.[1]

WHAT HAPPENED?

Veridian Credit Union confirmed that between April 1-2, 2023, it experienced a series of cyberattacks by an unauthorized third party through its online membership application system.[2] Veridian believes that the third party was able to generate credit reports for them individuals impacted by the breach, thereby accessing all of the information contained in a credit report for any individual whose information was compromised in the breach.[3]

WHAT INFORMATION WAS EXPOSED IN THE DATA BREACH?

The unauthorized third-party that was able to access the private information of vendors and current and former employees and their families Veridian Credit Union was storing was reportedly able to access:

  • Full names;
  • Social Security numbers;
  • Dates of birth; and
  • Financial account and loan information.[4]
