Harrisburg Medical Center Data Breach Class Action Investigation

WHAT HAPPENED?

Harrisburg Medical Center detected a cyberattack on its computer systems and network on August 24, 2023.[1] However, the data breach began on December 19, 2022, and continued for days until December 23, 2022.[2] Harrisburg Medical Center has disclosed the breach involves the confidential and personal information on its systems, including but not limited to:

  • names,
  • Social Security numbers,
  • dates of birth,
  • diagnosis/conditions,
  • lab results,
  • health insurance information,
  • driver’s license/state ID numbers,
  • digital/electronic signature, and/or
  • financial account numbers.[3]

HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE IMPACTED BY THE DATA BREACH?

Harrisburg Medical Center did not report the data breach to the authorities and many of the affected parties until December 12, 2023.[4] In total, the data of 147,826 individuals was compromised in the breach.[5]
