WHAT HAPPENED?
According to the data breach notice letter Astoria Company sent to the Maine Attorney General’s office, “In late January 2021, an alleged security researcher, along with an associate, gained unauthorized access to an Astoria system which had a database of individuals’ personal information.”[2] Astoria Company did not become aware of the “intrusion” until February 8, 2021.[3]
It its reporting to the Maine Attorney General, Astoria Company indicated that approximately 940,000 individuals’ first and last name, mailing address, email address, phone number, date of birth, social security number and/or driver’s license number and state, and in some instances employment information were compromised in the data breach.[4]
WHAT INFORMATION WAS EXPOSED IN THE DATA BREACH?
Astoria Company stated that the following information was included in the data breach,
- first and last name,
- mailing address,
- email address,
- phone number,
- date of birth,
- social security number and/or driver’s license number and state,
- and in some instances employment information.
