(“G&J Pepsi”). G&J Pepsi, which is headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio, is the nation’s largest wholly owned franchise bottler.
WHAT HAPPENED?
According to a sample notice letter provided to the Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation (“OCABR”), on September 9, 2021, G&J Pepsi learned that a cyber-attack involving malicious software had partially disrupted its systems.[1] G&J Pepsi later disclosed to the Maine Attorney General that the attack first began on September 1, 2021—more than a week before it was discovered.[2]
Roughly one month after learning of the attack, G&J Pepsi’s investigation concluded the sensitive personal data of its employees, as well as their dependents and beneficiaries, may have been accessed in the data breach.[3]
WHAT INFORMATION WAS EXPOSED IN THE DATA BREACH?
In the sample data breach notice provided to the Massachusetts OCABR,[4] G&J Pepsi states that the following data of G&J employees, dependents and beneficiaries may have been exposed in the data breach:
- First and last names,
- Dates of birth, and
- Social Security Numbers.
