WHAT HAPPENED?

According to information recently provided to the Maine Attorney General by its counsel, in early November 2021, Horizon Actuarial Services, LLC, received an email from a group claiming to have stolen copies of personal data from its computer system.[1] Horizon Actuarial Services, LLC’s investigation determined that two of its computer servers were accessed without authorization over the course of two days.[2]

HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE IMPACTED BY THE DATA BREACH?

Horizon Actuarial Services, LLC did not notify victims of the breach until March 22, 2022.[3]  In total, the data of 194,195 individuals was compromised in the breach.[4] The breach notification letters to victims do not explain why Horizon Actuarial Services, LLC waited five months after learning of the breach to start notifying victims.[5]

WHAT INFORMATION WAS EXPOSED IN THE DATA BREACH?

Horizon Actuarial Services, LLC has disclosed the following information was included in the data breach:

  • Full names,
  • Dates of birth,
  • Social Security numbers, and
  • Health plan information.[6]
