[1] In this role as counsel for the hospital, Heidell Pittoni Murphy & Bach LLP receives medical records of the hospital’s patients. These medical records were exposed in a recent data breach.[2]
On December 25, 2021, Heidell Pittoni Murphy & Bach LLP detected suspicious activity on its IT networks. On April 22, 2022, Heidell Pittoni Murphy & Bach LLP’s investigation concluded, determining an unauthorized actor gained control over private information maintained by the law firm.[3]
HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE IMPACTED BY THE DATA BREACH?
Heidell Pittoni Murphy & Bach LLP did not notify victims of the breach until May 16, 2022.[4] In total, the data of 114,979 individuals was compromised in the breach.[5] Heidell Pittoni Murphy & Bach LLP admitted it hasn’t determined the full scope of the compromise yet, but that it decided to inform all individuals whose information was likely impacted.
