WHAT HAPPENED?

Heritage Life Insurance Company detected a cyberattack on its computer systems on March 12, 2022.[1] The investigation that followed determined that an unauthorized actor had access to certain Heritage Life Insurance Company systems and obtained information stored on Heritage Life Insurance Company’s systems.[2] Heritage Life Insurance Company admitted the breach involves confidential and personal information.[3] Heritage Life Insurance Company has disclosed names and social security numbers were included in the breach.[4]

HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE IMPACTED BY THE DATA BREACH?

Heritage Life Insurance Company did not report the data breach to the authorities and the affected parties until July 13, 2022.[5] In total, the data of 58,144 individuals was compromised in the breach.[6] The breach notification letters to victims do not explain why Heritage Life Insurance Company waited over four months after learning of the breach to start notifying victims.[7]
