Professional Finance Company, Inc., one of the nation’s largest debt collection agencies, detected a ransomware attack on its computer systems on February 26, 2022.[1] The investigation that followed determined that an unauthorized actor had access to certain Professional Finance Company, Inc. systems and obtained the personal information stored on Professional Finance Company, Inc.’s systems.[2] Professional Finance Company, Inc. admitted the breach involves personal information of patients and members.[3] Professional Finance Company, Inc. did not report the data breach to the affected the healthcare provider clients until May 5, 2022.[4]
WHAT INFORMATION WAS EXPOSED IN THE DATA BREACH?
Professional Finance Company, Inc. has disclosed the following information was included in the data breach:
- full names,
- addresses,
- dates of birth,
- Social Security numbers,
- medical treatment information,
- health insurance information,
- accounts receivable balances, and
- information regarding payments made on accounts.[5]
