Humana Data Breach Class Action Investigation

WHAT HAPPENED?

On August 5, 2022, Humana became aware of a cyberattack impacting certain Human members.[1] The investigation that followed determined that an unauthorized actor had access to certain Humana data lists systems stored by one of Humana’s partners, Choice Health.[2]

HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE IMPACTED BY THE DATA BREACH?

Humana did not report the data breach to the authorities and the affected parties until September 21, 2022.[3] In total, the data of 22,767 individuals was compromised in the breach.[4] Humana has not explained why it waited so long to disclose the breach.

WHAT INFORMATION WAS EXPOSED IN THE DATA BREACH?

Humana has disclosed the following information was included in the data breach:

  • full names,
  • Social Security number,
  • Medicare beneficiary identification number,
  • date of birth,
  • address,
  • contact information,
  • and health insurance information.[5]
