WHAT HAPPENED?
On January 20, 2022, Scoular discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed and obtained.[1] Through its investigation, Scoular determined that an unauthorized actor accessed and acquired this sensitive information by obtaining files with confidential data from its internal network.[2]
Scoular did not report the data breach to the authorities and the affected parties until October 10, 2022.[3] Scoular has not explained why it waited so long to disclose the breach.
WHAT INFORMATION WAS EXPOSED IN THE DATA BREACH?
Scoular has disclosed the following information was included in the data breach:
- full names,
- dates of birth,
- Social Security numbers,
- driver’s license/state ID numbers,
- passport numbers,
- credit card numbers,
- financial account information;
- medical and/or treatment information, and
- health insurance information.[4]
