What Happened?
On April 14, 2023, Medtronic Diabetes reported that it had discovered that several Google Services tracking and authentication technologies used by the company had disclosed certain information about users through the company’s InPen App to Google without the users’ permission, through February 13, 2023. Medtronic Diabetes revealed the InPen App had used Google Analytics for Firebase (“Google Analytics”), Crashlytics for Firebase (“Crashlytics”) and Firebase Authentication (collectively “Google Services”), which had gathered and sent personal identifying information and protected health information to Google.[2]
