Sysco Data Breach Class Action Investigation

Sysco recently disclosed that between January 14, 2023, and May 9, 2023, an unauthorized third party was able to gain access to its network and obtain personal and private information of current and former Sysco employees.[1]

WHAT HAPPENED?

Sysco confirmed that for nearly five months, between January 14 and May 9, 2023, an unauthorized third party had access to some of the internal systems within its network.[2] Although Sysco’s investigation is ongoing, it announced on May 12, 2023, that it believes the unauthorized third-party was able to access certain sensitive information belonging to current and former Sysco colleagues.[3]

WHAT INFORMATION WAS EXPOSED IN THE DATA BREACH?

An unauthorized third-party was purportedly able to access the following information pertaining to individuals connected to Sysco:

  • Full names;
  • Social Security numbers;
  • Financial account numbers and routing numbers; and
  • Any other information provided to Sysco for payroll purposes.[4]
