On July 31, 2023, a United States District Court located in the State of California certified a class action lawsuit against tea maker R.C. Bigelow over allegations that R.C. Bigelow has falsely advertised its products as “Manufactured in the USA 100% American Family Owned.”
The individuals who brought this lawsuit (known as the “plaintiffs”) have alleged that they overpaid for R.C. Bigelow products based on the understanding that they were purchasing American made products. By granting class certification, the court has ruled that the plaintiffs can seek compensation on behalf of themselves, as well as everyone else who may have overpaid for R.C. Bigelow products. Specifically, the class of individuals whose interests are now represented by the plaintiffs include:
All natural persons who purchased at least one 18/20 count box of Bigelow Earl Grey Black Tea Caffeine, Green Tea Caffeine, Constant Comment Black Tea Caffeine, Green Lemon Tea Caffeine, Vanilla Chai Black Tea Caffeine, English Tea Time Black Tea Caffeine, Spiced Chai Black Tea Caffeine, French Vanilla Black Tea Caffeine, or Vanilla Caramel Black Tea Caffeine, labeled as “Manufactured in the USA 100% American Family Owned,” at a retail store in the state of California, at any time from October 17, 2017 to the present.
This means that if you purchased one of the listed R.C. Bigelow products from a retail store in California during the relevant time period, you may be able to share in the benefits of any settlement or verdict that occurs in this case.

Unfortunately, the class certification order only applies to individuals who purchased one of the relevant products from a retail store in California.
