Tri Counties Bank Data Breach Class Action Investigation

Tri Counties Bank, located in located in Chico, California experienced a data breach and notified the Maine Attorney General of such data breach on November 22, 2023.

 

WHAT HAPPENED?

Tri Counties Bank experienced suspicious activity on its network on or around February 7, 2023. Tri Counties Bank determined that an unauthorized actor may have accessed certain systems that stored certain of Tri Counties Bank’s customers, employee or affiliate of a customer, or employee or dependent of an employee/former employee of Tri Counties Bank’s information such as names, Social Security numbers, driver’s license number, and financial account information.[1] Despite the data breach occurring in February 2023, Tri Counties Bank did not issue notice to impacted individuals until November 2023 – nine months after the data breach occurred.

Approximately 74,385 individuals’ private information was impacted in Tri Counties Bank’s data breach.

 

WHAT INFORMATION WAS EXPOSED IN THE DATA BREACH?

Tri Counties Bank reported that the following information was included in the data breach:

  • name,
  • Social Security number,
  • Driver’s license number, and,
  • Financial account information.[2]
