WHAT HAPPENED?
Red Roof Inns, Inc. detected a cyberattack on its computer systems and network on September 23, 2023.[1] Red Roof Inns, Inc. has disclosed the breach involves the confidential and personal information on its systems, including but not limited to:
- names,
- Social Security numbers,
- addresses,
- dates of birth,
- driver’s license numbers,
- government-issued ID numbers (e.g. passport, state ID card),
- financial information (e.g. account number, credit or debit card number),
- medical information, and
- health insurance information.[2]
HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE IMPACTED BY THE DATA BREACH?
Red Roof Inns, Inc. did not report the data breach to the authorities and many of the affected parties until December 12, 2023.[3] While the total number of impacted individuals is unknown at this time, Red Roof Inns, Inc. has disclosed that the private information of at least 2,167 Texans was compromised in the breach.[4]
