CITY OF HOPE DATA BREACH CLASS ACTION INVESTIGATION

WHAT HAPPENED?

On October 13, 2023, City of Hope detected a cyberattack on its computer systems and network that occurred from September 19, 2023, until October 12, 2023.[1] City of Hope has now disclosed the breach involves the confidential and personal information on its systems, including but not limited to:

·               full names,

·               contact information,

·               dates of birth,

·               Social Security numbers,

·               driver’s license number,

·               individual tax identification numbers,

·               bank account numbers,

·               credit card numbers,

·               medical record numbers,

·               medical information and history, and

·               health insurance information.[2]

 

HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE IMPACTED BY THE DATA BREACH?

City of Hope did not report the data breach to the authorities and many of the affected parties for months following the breach – not until April 2, 2024.[3] In total, the data of at least 827,149 individuals was compromised in the breach.[4]
