MAY INSTITUTE DATA BREACH CLASS ACTION INVESTIGATION

WHAT HAPPENED?

On December 14, 2023, May Institute detected a cyberattack on its computer systems and network that occurred on December 5, 2023.[1] May Institute has now disclosed the breach involves the confidential and personal information on its systems, including but not limited to:

  • full names,
  • addresses,
  • dates of birth,
  • Social Security numbers,
  • driver’s license number,
  • state identification numbers,
  • medical claims information,
  • clinical information and history, and
  • health insurance information.[2]

 

HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE IMPACTED BY THE DATA BREACH?

May Institute did not report the data breach to the authorities and many of the affected parties for months following the breach – not until May 7, 2024.[3] In total, the data of at least 15,111 individuals was compromised in the breach.[4]
